January Book Selection

Join us on January 8th, 2013 as we discuss A trouble of fools by Linda Barnes. This is the first in the Carlotta Carlyle series based in Boston. December Book Selection

Join us on December 4th as we discuss Borderlands by Brian McGilloway, the first in the Inspector Devlin series. The corpse of a local girl is found on the County Donegal-Tyrone Border, a place known as the borderlands. Since the teenager was from Donegal, Inspector Benedict Devlin of the Garda Siochana takes over the case. He works with his counterpart in Northern Ireland to solve this murder.

November Book Club Meeting

As a reminder, since Tuesday November 6th is Election Day, the Library will be closed. We will be holding the Book Club on the following Tuesday, November 13th in the Second Floor Conference Room.

November Book Selection

The next meeting of the North Providence Mystery Book Club will be on the second Tuesday of November since the first Tuesday is Election Day and the Library will be closed. The selected book we will be discussing is Baltimore Blues by Laura Lippman. This is the first book in the Tess Monaghan series. Tess is an out of work newspaper reporter, takes different jobs to make ends meet. She does some investigative work for a friend who just happens to be the prime suspect in a murder investigation.

October Book Selection

The North Providence Mystery Book Club will meet Tuesday October 2, 2012 at 7:00 pm in the First Floor Conference Room.
We will be discussing Dead simple by Peter James. This is the first book featuring Superintendent Roy Grace. It takes place in Brighton, England, and involves a prank that tragically goes wrong. Please join us. Books will be available at the Circulation Desk.

September Book Selection

Join the North Providence Mystery Book Club on September 4, 2012 (the day after Labor Day). The book we will be discussing is Quieter Than Sleep by Joanne Dobson. This is the first book featuring Professor Karen Pelletier, a member of the English faculty at the fictional Enfield College in Massachusetts. She is initially under suspicion when a fellow professor is murdered. She must clear her name, and help the police navigate the academic and literary clues

August Book Selection

Join the North Providence Mystery Book Club on Tuesday August 7, 2012 as we discuss Rogue Island by Bruce DeSilva. This book takes place in Providence. It features a newspaper reporter, Liam Mulligan, who is investigating a string of fires in the Mount Hope section of the city. He wants to find out who or what is behind the fires and deal with the people who are trying to stop him. Bruce DeSilva won the 2011 Edgar and Macavity Awards for Best First Novel for this book. We won't be meeting on July 3, 2012 because of the 4th of July Holiday. Enjoy.

June Book Selection

The North Providence Mystery Book Club will be meeting on Tuesday June 5, 2012. The book we will be discussing is A Share in Death by Deborah Crombie. This book is the first featuring Scotland Yard Superintendent Duncan Kincaid and Sergeant Gemma Jones. In the story, the Superintendent gets involved in a murder investigation while he is on a vacation in a timeshare. The author, Deborah Crombie, like Elizabeth George and Martha Grimes, is an American who writes British police procedurals. Join us on the 5th at 7:00 pm.

May Book Selection


Join the North Providence Mystery Book Club on Tuesday May 1, 2012 as we discuss The Surgeon by Tess Gerritsen. The detectives in this book deal with a serial killer who mutilates his victims in such a way that the he is given the nickname "The Surgeon." The author is a former physician, and her medical knowledge comes forth in this book. This book is the first featuring detective Rizzoli. The Rizzoli and Isles books have been made into a television series.

April Book Selection

Join the North Providence Mystery Book Club on April 3, 2012 as we discuss A Clubbable Woman by Reginald Hill. This is the first book in the Andy Dalziel/Peter Pascoe mysteries. In this story, the police must find the killer of a woman whose husband was away playing rugby for his local club. There is now 24 books in this series. Sadly, the author, Reginald Hill passed away in January. He will be missed by fans of this series. Which was also made into a British television series.

March Book Selection


On March 6, 2012, the North Providence Mystery Book Club will be discussing The Black Echo by Michael Connelly. This book introduces LAPD Detective Hieronymous (Harry) Bosch. The story opens with Harry being called to investigate a body found in a drainage pipe. Harry soon realizes things are not what they appear to be and finds himself up against the FBI.

February Book Selection


The next meeting of the North Providence Mystery Book Club will be held on Tuesday February 7 at 7:00 pm in the Conference Room. We will be reading Gallows View by Peter Robinson. This story takes place in a small Yorkshire town where Inspector Banks moves his family after leaving London. This is the first of nineteen Inspector Banks novels.
