January Book Selection

The January book selection of the North Providence Mystery Book Club will be A Morbid Taste for Bones by Ellis Peters. This book is the first in the Brother Cadfael series, which takes place in a Benedictine Monastery in Shrewsbury, England during the 1100s. This series was shown on PBS, with Sir Derek Jacobi starring as Brother Cadfael.

December Books Selection

The book we will be reading for the December meeting of the North Providence Mystery Book Club is Deja Dead by Kathy Reichs. This is the first Temperance Brennan mystery. Temperance is a forensic anthropologist working in Montreal. This series is the basis for the television program Bones.

November Book Selection

Join the North Providence Mystery Book Club on Tuesday November 9, 2010 at 7:00pm when we discuss the book, The Face of a Stranger by Anne Perry. This book is the first in Anne Perry's William Monk series. Please note that we are meeting on the second Tuesday because the first Tuesday is election day.

October Book Selection

Join the North Providence Mystery Book Club on Tuesday October 5 at 7:00 pm in the library's conference room. We will discussing the book, Mistress of the Art of Death by Ariana Franklin. This book takes place in England during the reign of Henry II, who wants solved the gruesome murders of children in Cambridge. He asks for a master of the art of death (a forerunner of a modern medical examiner)but instead, is sent a mistress of the art of death. Copies of the book will be available at the circulation desk.

September Book Selection

On Tuesday, September 7, 2010 the North Providence Mystery Book Club will be discussing The Shape of Water, by Andrea Camilleri. This is the first in a series of books featuring Inspector Montalbano, a Sicilian detective. Copies will be available at the Circulation Desk to check out.

August Book Selection

On Tuesday August 3rd, the North Providence Mystery Book Club will be discussing Self's punishment, by Bernhard Schlink. The story takes place in Germany of the 1980's. It is about private investigator Gerhard Self and how the case he has taken on makes him confront his past. There will be copies of the book held at the circulation desk. July Book Selection

On Tuesday July 13th, the North Providence Mystery Book Club will discuss Haunted Ground by Erin Hart. This book takes place in Ireland. The characters are anthropologists who study preserved bodies found in peat bogs. Some of the bodies are very old, while they discover one that is not so old.

Book for the Month of June

On Tuesday June 1st, 2010 the North Providence Mystery Book Club will be discussing The Man with a Load of Mischief by Martha Grimes. This is the first book in the Superintendent Richard Jury series. Like Elizabeth George, Martha Grimes is an American writer whose books take place in England. Please join us on the 1st of June.

May Book Selection

The North Providence Mystery Book Club will next meet on Tuesday May 4th at 7:00pm. We will be reading Death at La Fenice by Donna Leon. This story takes place in Venice Italy, and is the first book to feature Commissario Guido Brunetti. If you like reading mysteries, please join us.

March Book Selection

The North Providence Mystery Book Club selection for the month of March will be The Alienist by Caleb Carr. This book includes, as one of the characters, Theodore Roosevelt, before he became President of the United States.
The book club will meet on March 2, 2010 in the Library's Conference Room.
